Summer Game Fest brings a packed schedule of showcases, including three new to the usual lineup

Another year of gaming showcases begins this week. Along with Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest (June 7, 2 p.m. PT) at the epicenter of it all and filling the void left behind by the discontinuation of E3, this year's summer of gaming brings a handful of first-time showcases, some familiar faces and returning hosts, and hundreds of game announcements and updates.

2025 marks the addition of three new shows to an already full-to-bursting week and two genuine 9 to 5 stretches of on-camera reactions from your intrepid VGG hosts: Nate, Fern, and Fish. So, as we spend the week caffeinating and stress testing our capacity to work without sleep, prepare for live reaction streams and our Best of Show awards — some recent recipients include Tiny Bookshop, Constance, The War in Chiapas, and Building Relationships — recap videos, mini-previews of games with demos out, and so much more.

A schedule image listing out the times and dates that VGG will be streaming the showcases. This information is listed later in the article. In the upper right of the image, the VGG banner logo can be seen with its 1970s lava lamp design. Below the banner are little chibi avatars for each of the hosts, Fern, Nate, and Fishpaste, drawn by the artist Rincs.
Our co-streaming schedule: Expect live reactions and discussion all week by Naetoid, Fernfolk, and FishpasteGG! Chibi host art credit: Rincs.

So what's happening at Summer Game Fest 2025 and how is VGG covering it?

As with the past few years, VGG Editor-in-Chief Nate, Deputy Editor Julie, and frequent VGG guest streamer FishpasteGG will host a fun watch-along with live reactions and immediate quickfire analysis for all of the big summer gaming showcases that will be streaming from June 3 to June 8.

Follow us on Twitch for live coverage and check out our recaps and breakout clips later on YouTube.

As always, our focus is with the indies, which typically receive much-needed and bigger-than-ever exposure from their participation in these showcases.

The addition of three new shows this year will help expand the types of games and game dev communities garnering support and exposure from the millions around the world who keep their eyes glued to Summer Game Fest. Participating for the first time this year are:

  • Southeast Asian Games Showcase (June 7, 12 p.m.).

  • Green Games Showcase, for games championing environmental causes or directly contributing to real-world sustainability efforts (June 7, 1 p.m. PT — we'll be streaming it at 2:30 p.m. PT to avoid overlap with the Future Games Show).

  • Frosty Games Fest, which features games out of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand (June 7, 4 p.m. PT).

Keighley's Summer Game Fest, as always, keeps the spirit of Old E3 alive with his annual hype fest. And fan favorites like Wholesome Direct and Day of the Devs return for another year of indie spotlights, making superstars out of especially artful, uplifting or emotionally resonant games.

Summer Game Fest and its surrounding programming — official and unofficial — provides a glimpse into the next few years of exciting creativity in the games industry, and that's always what is most electrifying about this time of year.

Below, you'll find a full schedule of the events and showcases we'll be livestreaming. If you want to keep up with us any time we go live, follow us on Twitch and you'll be notified of it all.

One change from previous years: Our outlet will not livestream the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 as Microsoft and Xbox are current priority targets of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement due to the company's Azure cloud and artificial intelligence services being central to Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestinians, as covered in investigations by The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and The Associated Press. While we will be looking for ways to thoughtfully discuss and uplift the games featured by the event and support the livelihood of these game developers in other ways, we do not endorse buying new products from Microsoft or its storefronts while the boycott is ongoing, and therefore won't be helping to build hype around its upcoming games as they're announced.

SGF is much more than streams — the bags under our eyes by the end of the week are proof enough. Alongside this week of presentations, we'll publish written show recaps, previews for a variety of indie games that might get lost in the shuffle amid hundreds of games featured, and a steady stream of VGG game reviews throughout the rest of the month.

The momentum continues as Steam Next Fest June 2025 kicks off almost immediately after the SGF streams stop, with countless free game demos and developer interviews going live on Steam from June 9 to June 16 at 10 a.m. Pacific. Expect a handful of our mini-previews to land then. June will be a wall-to-wall Summer Game Fest for VGG, we can promise that much.

I said it last year, but it's even truer now: Phew. That's a lot. Like, more than ever a lot. We hope you'll stick with us through it all this week, because we love sharing in the live moments of new announcements with our community, and this time of year is one of our favorites.
